Description
2004 Ford Mustang GT fully caged race/track car. I bought it in December 2007 with about 34k miles, and it now has 37,773 miles.
I drove this Mustang for several seasons in NASA HPDE 1-2-3-4 and TTD/TT5 competition, where it was reasonably fast (I’m a mediocre driver), a podium contender every weekend, and stone reliable. Personal best was 2:32 around Sebring, and there’s more in it if you’re less mediocre than me. This car still holds the NASA TTD track records at Daytona and Homestead. Has NASA logbook.
This Mustang can continue to be used as-is for NASA TT5 or ST5 competition, as well as other SCCA, WRL, or ChampCar classes. It can be used as a safe and solid HPDE car if you want to work your way up to something like American Iron with the same chassis.
The driveline is bone stock, from the Motorcraft paper air filter to the OEM exhaust tips, and everything in between. It still has the OEM catalytic converters and other emissions items (a Sebring turn 17A corner worker approved of its quietness).
While the interior is fully caged and unnecessary items have been thoughtfully removed, all street-required items like windshield wipers, head/tail lights, high beams, brake lights, parking lights, turn signals, hazard lights, reverse lights, and all OEM glass are still in place and fully functional. Even the trunk unlock button, power windows, power locks, and manual key locks still work. OEM interior fuse panel has been relocated for easy access, and the OEM wiring is unchanged. I still have the owner’s manual and zipper case. I have the title and I kept tags and insurance on it for several years for easily getting to the dyno, alignment shop, and car shows and you can do the same.
The hood, roof, and trunk paint areas are not pretty at all (mostly thanks to a cheap car cover), but the car is solid and straight. It has not been crashed, hit, bumped, rubbed, or had any body or chassis parts repaired.
Car will come with the as-shown set of OEM 1998 Cobra 17x8 wheels with expired “driveway tires” and 1 set of bare OEM Ford 2003 Cobra 17x9 wheels, along with various spare parts (front hubs, front rotors, rear Carbotech XP8 pads, rear springs, etc.).
A. General Driveline Specs
1. 4.6L 2V SOHC “PI” engine (rated 260 hp and 302 ft-lb torque)
2. No ECU tuning for performance (only to disable PATS anti-theft, so you don’t need a key although the OEM key is included)
3. TR3650 5-speed transmission
4. 8.8” axle, 3.27 gears, Traction Lok limited slip differential (drain plug added to diff cover for easy fluid changes, also a remote-mounted K&N breather vent with hose for easy filling)
B. Modifications
1. 2000 Cobra R Brembo 13” front brakes
2. SN95 Cobra 11.65” vented rear brakes
3. 3AN front caliper and hard line brake fitting adapters

6. Steeda adjustable camber/caster plates
7. Steeda clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster
8. Front brake ducts from fog light holes
9. Front and rear springs (900 lb/in front, 250 lb/in rear; basically a Camaro Mustang Challenge setup at the time)

11. Maximum Motorsports Bilstein rear shocks BE5-6418-MM3
12. Maximum Motorsports aluminum steering rack bushings

D. Roll Cage/Interior/Safety Equipment Information
1. Full 6-point cage fabricated and TIG welded by Ultimate Motorsports in Ocoee, FL based on my specs; exceeds NASA requirements
2. 1.75” x 0.120” wall DOM tubing with 11 gauge steel mounting plates
3. Driver position, pedals, steering, shifter moved rearward (mainly lets driver get in/out easily between a head containment seat and the extra A-pillar support bar; also helps with front/rear weight distribution)
4. Seat, pedals, and steering shifted 2” inboard toward the transmission tunnel (gets driver further away from the door bars; more than 4” clear between inside of door bars and 18” wide seat)
5. Driver side door bars design from Australian V8 Supercars “Car of the Future”
6. Fabricated pedal box that moves the OEM brake and clutch pedals rearward (and still has 1” fore/aft adjustment; leave the seat, move the pedals)
7. Fabricated floor-mount gas pedal

17. Longacre 45788 kill switch with A-pillar pull handle (OEM wiring and terminals uncut, just rearranged a couple of OEM terminals and added a battery-to-switch cable)
18. Unnecessary wires de-pinned (not cut or hacked or wrapped in a random ball of electrical tape)
19. Steel firewall block-off plates where the HVAC was (bolt-in, removable if necessary)
20. UltraShield aluminum seat in photos is only for display purposes; knowing what I now know about containment seats, you will want to get a containment seat (also, my cat likes to sleep in this seat)
21. Schroth 6-point harnesses in photos are only for display purposes; they are expired
E. You will need to provide:
1. Your seat of choice (I prefer to keep this one, because my cat likes it and there is much safer and smarter stuff on the market since 2008)
2. Your harnesses of choice (these expired several years ago)
3. Your fire bottle of choice (if applicable for your class rules)
4. Typical vehicle consumables (tires, brake pads, brake fluid)
