2001 Mazda MX-5 Miata (NB) - 5-SPEED MANUAL - Project / Mechanic's Special NOTE: Facebook keeps changing this to automatic. This car IS a manual. My daily for 6 years. It needs work and I've fallen behind, so it needs someone with a garage, time, and tools. Lots of life left as a project, track build, engine-swap candidate, or parts donor. WHAT WORKS: - Runs and drives (see notes below - should be trailered until fixed) - 5-speed manual, heater, radio/speakers - Moderately new BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 tires - New headlights, new battery (needs a charge - it's been sitting a few months) - Roof goes down - Fog lights included in trunk (never installed - bumper cover issue, see below) NEEDS WORK - TO DRIVE / REGISTER: - Stalls at idle intermittently. Runs fine, then randomly shuts off at a stop / off-throttle. Restarts. I have not diagnosed the cause. - Will NOT pass CA smog - likely needs a new catalytic converter. - Eats oil - has always been heavy on oil use. - Belts sometimes squeal on startup. I've replaced them before; likely needs tightening. - A/C was vacuumed out for a cleanout I never finished. Was working before that. - Cruise control only works holding the clutch at very specific angles. NEEDS WORK - COSMETIC / INTERIOR: - Needs paint - hood is worst, whole car could use it. - Convertible top is starting to decay - replace if stored outside. Goes down OK, doesn't go up so well. - Dashboard is cracked. - Driver seat needs a new cover - foam is showing. - Driver door panel has a hole under the elbow. - Driver window sometimes sticks when rolling down ~1" above the door. - Bumper cover isn't pretty. - Very dusty from sitting in covered parking for the past year. - Could use a better antenna setup. ⚠️ IMPORTANT SELLER'S NOTE (CALIFORNIA BUYERS): This car is being sold strictly AS-IS as a Mechanic's Special / Project Car.
